* Every stairway floor opening should be guarded by a standard railing on all exposed sides except at the entrance of the stairway.
* Every manhole floor opening should be protected by removable standard railings.
* Every ladderway floor opening or platform should be guarded by a standard railing on all exposed sides except the opening. The passage through the railing should either be a swinging gate or so offset that a person cannot walk directly into the opening.
* Regardless of height, all open-sided floors, walkways, platforms, or runways above or adjacent to dangerous equipment, pickling or galvanizing tanks, degreasing units, and similar hazards should be guarded with a standard railing.
